Professional Liability Insurance Included with Your Membership

  • Included with eligible NCED Professional Certificate Holder Fees
  • Up to $1 million in professional liability coverage
  • Optional enhanced coverage available for $35/year for qualifying paid part-time educational work

Beginning 8/1/2026, eligible NCED members receive professional liability insurance as part of their annual membership dues — at no additional cost. This benefit provides peace of mind by serving as an additional layer of protection if your school district’s coverage is unavailable or insufficient.

  • Up to $1 million in professional liability and employment liability coverage
  • Defense costs for professional liability claims
  • Coverage for a broad range of professional duties and employment-related exposures
  • Job Protection Benefits, including attorney consultation and representation for certain employment actions
  • Additional legal expense benefits for covered situations, subject to policy terms and limits

Eligibility for Included Coverage

The in-dues professional liability benefit is available to NCED Active Professional Certification Holders in good standing who meet the plan’s eligibility requirements.

  • Be current on NCED certificate holder fees.
  • Be employed as a W-2 employee whose primary occupation is with a school, college, or university (including qualifying higher education employees such as university professors).
  • Members working solely as independent contractors (1099) are not eligible for the included in-dues coverage.
  • NCED “Retired Status” members are not eligible for this policy coverage as NCED retired status indicates you are no longer practicing in the field of educational diagnostics.

Optional Enhanced Coverage – $35 Per Year

Certificate Holders who receive compensation for part-time educational work outside their primary employment — such as consulting, tutoring, or teaching — may purchase an optional coverage enhancement for $35 per year. This enhancement extends your professional liability coverage to qualifying paid educational activities outside your primary employment. To be eligible for the optional enhancement:

  • Have your primary employment with an educational organization as a W2 employee
  • Be performing paid educational work as your part-time or secondary job.
  • Have part-time duties that meet the same eligibility guidelines as your primary position.
  • Remain an NCED Certificate Holder in good standing.
  • Medically related teaching or services performed by registered nurses, licensed/certified school psychologists, and physical therapists are not eligible for the optional enhancement.

Already Have Liability Coverage?

We recognize that many members already have professional liability insurance through their employer, local educational chapter, state association, or another educational related organization. NCED is pleased to offer this in-dues coverage as an additional member benefit that may be used in conjunction with other available coverage, providing members with another layer of protection.

Access to Private Practice Insurance for Full Time 1099 Employment

If you are a full-time 1099 employee, we have established a partnership with Forest T. Jones to offer a policy for your professional liability insurance. This policy is only available to NCED Certificate holders who do not work as W2 employees. You must be in good standing as an Active Professional Certificate Holder. This policy is not available to non-members/Certificate Holders. A link on our website will direct you to where you can apply and pay for your Liability Coverage.
