I attended the University of New Orleans during the 2012 Fall Semester to complete the following graduate level course required to add Early Interventionist Birth through Kindergarten certification to my Louisiana teaching certificate: EDSP 6085 Foundations of Early Childhood/ Introduction to Early Intervention for Young Children with Disabilities and their Families (3 credits equaling 45 clock hours). This course focused on services and supports for children with and without disabilities from birth to five years old and their families. The instructor provided current intervention research as well. As part of the course, I had to conduct field research in a public school setting, a private program, and the Early Head Start program, create adaptive equipment, provide a fact sheet on a chosen disability, participate in group discussion and activities, and take two exams.
