I attended the University of New Orleans during the 2012 Fall Semester to complete the following graduate level course required to add Reading Specialist certification to my Louisiana teaching certificate: EDCI 6460 Psychology of Reading (3 credits equaling 45 clock hours). This course provided information on different reading models, the research behind each model, and the theology of each model. The outcome of participating in this course was to provide a theoretical model of reading and write a research paper. This course required me to submit a research paper, which pertained to understanding and teaching children with Developmental Dyslexia, provide abstracts of ten research articles to support my paper, conduct a presentation on my research topic using PowerPoint, complete two written exams, and participate in class discussions.
