In December of 2014 I read the book entitled Asperger’s Syndrome by Tony Attwood. I read this book along with another Educational Diagnostician for discussion and reflection. This book discussed individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome and the challenges faced by individuals with the diagnosis and their families. The book goes into great detail discussing social behaviors, language, and sensory sensitivity issues related to the disorder. It also discusses cognition of individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome. Finally, the book discusses common interests and routines of people with Asperger’s Syndrome. The book concluded with a section on Frequently Asked Questions which enabled me to more fully understand the syndrome and have a greater understanding with many of the students I work with.
